What is Renewable Energy?

Renewable energy is energy generated from natural resources - such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat - which are renewable (naturally replenished).

Solar energy is the light and radiant heat from the Sun that influences Earth's climate and weather and sustains life. Solar power is sometimes used as a synonym for solar energy or more specifically to refer to electricity generated from solar radiation. Since ancient times solar energy has been harnessed by humans using a range of technologies. Solar radiation along with secondary solar resources such as wind and wave power, hydroelectricity and biomass account for most of the available renewable energy on Earth.

How Can I Estimate the Cost of a Solar Power System?

Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form, such as electricity, using wind turbines. At the end of 2007, worldwide nameplate capacity of wind-powered generators was 94.1 gigawatts. Although wind produces only about 1% of world-wide electricity use, it is growing rapidly, increasing more than fivefold globally between 2000 and 2007.

Why do you want Renewable Energy?

Residential homes account for approximately 60 percent of overall energy use, two-thirds of total electricity consumption, and half of all greenhouse gas emissions. Energy efficiency in buildings and homes will save money, help eliminate greenhouse gas emissions, and boost jobs in the Commonwealth’s green building sectors.

Power generation facilities (power plants) emissions are responsible for approximately one-third of nitrogen oxide emissions, two-thirds of sulfur dioxide emissions, and one-third of carbon dioxide emissions nationally. Renewable and alternative energies can avoid or reduce these air emissions, as well as reduce water consumption, thermal pollution, waste, noise, and adverse land-use impacts.

Elements such as the sun, wind and water are in abundance and can generate a continual supply of energy, which will never run out. Because these natural elements are part of the earths chemical make-up they will always flourish and be abundant.

Many renewable energy users have reported a drastic decrease in utility cost. The distributors of renewable energy will never increase the cost for production as the current methods of energy production do. Renewable energy sources may also provide attractive financial incentives for solar and wind power users.

Natural renewable energy sources and/or products do not pose an eminent threat to the earth, animals or humans. They are clean ecological elements, which contribute to the earth's reproduction and longevity.
